Chantelle completed her undergraduate work in Philosophy at the University of Western Ontario, followed by a Diploma in Northern Native Studies from Yukon College, while working and playing in the far north. She then obtained her Juris Doctor from Robson Hall, University of Manitoba, where she graduated on the Dean’s List with several honours and awards, including those for highest standing in Aboriginal and Constitutional Law. Chantelle worked for the Court Challenges Program of Canada and the former Attorney General of Manitoba while studying law in Winnipeg. She then completed her articling by clerking for the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada in Ottawa before returning to Thunder Bay with her family.
In addition to her practice of Public and Administrative Law, Chantelle has served with a variety of legal and community organizations, including the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association Environmental Law Section, the Ontario Bar Association Municipal and Aboriginal Law Sections, the Public Relations and Recruitment and Retention Committees of the Thunder Bay Law Association, the Board of the Local Health Integration Network, the Advisory Committee for the Negahneewin College Aboriginal Community Advocacy Program, the Advisory Council for Lake Superior Discovery Place, and the Board of Harbourview Child Care Centre.
Chantelle has demonstrated success in the development and implementation of operational and proactive measures for her clients, constitutional and jurisdictional challenges, federal and provincial judicial reviews of government and quasi-government activity, federal and provincial human rights cases, and defence and appeal work before various regulatory tribunals and levels of the provincial and federal court systems.
