Lorne Firman, Partner in charge of the Labour Department, brings over twenty years experience in the areas of grievance arbitration, collective bargaining, wrongful dismissal, and many other labour related areas.
We represent a variety of clients in many different sectors of business. Most times, our representations fall with businesses who are unionized or who are about to become organized. Many issues evolve around grievances due to policy administration or interpretation of the collective agreement.
Our Labour Department has vast experience in consulting with management in developing an ideal collective areement for their respective industry. We have assisted with collective bargaining negotiations and interest arbitrations in the hospital and human services organizations.
Many companies or firms are not governed by a collective agreement or a grievance procedure. And, as a result, individual workers are sometimes terminated without explanation or without cause. In considering any further action, our team investigates whether cause can be substantiated. Our staff is dedicated to obtaining a fair, but yet, realistic settlement in wrongful dismissal issues.
Organizations are continually becoming familiar with new work place issues involving discrimination and harassment, sexual or otherwise. Our group advises employers how to deal with human rights complaint and how to carry out a proper investigation. On behalf of employees, we seek a fair and reasonable resolution to the problem at hand, whether through assistance with the human rights complaints itself or othewise.
