Mary Catherine carries on a general labour and employment practice in which she acts on behalf of employers, large and small, in both the public and private sectors. She has extensive experience in all areas of labour and employment law including employment standards, human rights, wrongful dismissal, workplace safety and insurance, union relations and labour arbitrations.
Mary Catherine provides day-to-day advice to employers in relation to both unionized and non-union workplaces and regularly represents employers before boards of arbitration and various administrative tribunals such as the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Ministry of Labour, Employment Standards Branch, the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.
Mary Catherine was seconded to the Ontario Ministry of Labour in 2001 to assist with the drafting of the Employment Standards Policy and Interpretation Manual. She was an active member of the Government Affairs Committee of the Human Resources Professional Association for Ontario for many years and currently serves as a Director on the Thunder Bay Library Board. Mary Catherine received her Bachelor of Law, with honours, from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996. Before joining the firm, Mary Catherine articled and practiced labour and employment law with the national law firm of McCarthy Tetrault LLP in Toronto.
