Richard has an extensive background in promoting legal education in post secondary institutions. As the Partner in charge of Corporate and Real Estate Law at Buset and Partners, Richard shared his knowledge at Confederation College and Lakehead University, teaching and giving seminars relating to :
>> Use of Trusts in Estate Planning (1973 - Estate Planning Institute),
>> Real Estate Course for the Institute of Law Clerks for Ontario (1981),
>> Setting Up a Small Business (1983 - 1986 Confederation College),
>> Acquisition of Business (1984 Lakehead University),
>> Use of Trusts In Estate Planning (1985 - Lakehead University), and setting up a small business (1986 to present - Federal Business Development Bank)
Richard graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1st Class Standing) in 1973 and pursued his education at Osgoode Hall Law School, obtaining a Bachelor of Law Degree in 1976.
He was called to the Bar for the Province of Ontario in 1978 and achieved the Practitioners Prize in Real Estate, which is awarded to the highest ranking Real Estate Student in the Bar Association Course in the Province of Ontario.
After practicing with another local law firm, Richard became a sole practitioner practicing law in the City of Thunder Bay for the period 1980 to 1984. Richard then became the founding partner of Buset, Firman, and Birston .
After formulating a Partnership with the two other partners (Firman and Birston) he became the Partner in charge of Real Estate Corporate/Commercial Department.
Richard is currently an active member in the Thunder Bay Law Association, Canadian Association of University Solicitors, Vice President and Director - 3 C's Re-Introduction Centre.
